Topics Discussed

Budget

This last month our budget was in the black. Even with all the unforeseen problems and expenses that came up our penny pinching and saving paid off. We still have a lot to do but these are the first fruits.

Satellite Dishes

We have had many requests for satellite dishes over the years, so far we have not allowed them because of the problems that come from mounting them in common areas. Changes and construction that happens from installation affect more than just the resident installing the satellite dish. We don't have anything against satellite dishes as a committee we just have not found a fair method of installation. One suggestion provided is to have one provider with one dish per unit that supplies the signal for all the units. We would like feedback from you if you have any suggestions on how to solve this problem. Lets solve this as a community. Log on to the web site and give feed back in the forum or let the committee know via phone, mail, or email.

Digital Television

After February 17, 2009 television stations will be only broadcast a digital signal. The affect on households will depend on the televisions in each household. Newer televisions are equipped with digital tuners, however older television will need a digital-to-analog converter box to continue to watch broadcast television. If you find yourself in the category of needing a converter box, the government has established a program to help with the cost of the box. For more information on the digital-to-analog converter box visit www.dtv2009.gov or you can call 1-888-388-2009. Another source of good information is www.dtv.gov/consumercorner.html

Dumpsters

The dumpsters are still under some testing. For the most part they are going to be side loading. In an attempt to save money we are trying smaller bins and fewer dumps per week. Not all the kinks have been worked out. Thanks for your participation and patience during these changes.

Pool

Changes are coming to the pool. First is the tile work that will happen in the next couple of weeks. They need to empty the pool and repair some broken tile. Also, there have been some changes by the health department. Swimmers that are not potty trained need to remind their parents that they can not swim without swim diapers. Another rule set in place by the health department is any one that has diarrhea within a week should not swim. Also, it is recommended that all swimmers shower before and after swimming to avoid further contamination.

Thanks Sandy

Some may have noticed that in the clubhouse the sofas did not have casters and were causing holes in the carpet. Sandy took the time to notice and fix the problem. Thanks Sandy. Also, we wanted to say congratulations to Sandy. She was married recently.

Community Rules

Thanks to the Bylaw Committee for all their hard work. They are doing a great job. All of you should have received, not long ago, a working copy of the community rules. Thanks.

Water Main Change

In the Working Copy of the Community Rules was a list of the water main shut off. We were informed that at least one of the shut off's listed was incorrect. Water main shut off listed in unit 181 in hallway wall has been moved. If you know of any other corrections please let us know so we can get it corrected and let others know.

Park Walk

We are planning a park walk for June. We are hoping to show residents the improvements that are planned, but more importantly get feedback and learn of other improvements / repairs that are needed for Garden Park. We encourage all to come out and join in.

Building Representatives

As is customary for Garden Park we had some flux in our numbers and we are in need for a building representative for building 10. Please let us know if you would like to help. Don't be afraid of amount of work involved. Building representative duties are not that time consuming. It is less than being on the management committee. You are a liaison to the committee. Building reps help us filter the concerns that the need attention of the management committee while the building reps help with common tasks / concerns like filling ice melt for the common areas, for example.

Renters

We have had some concerns expressed about having renters in Garden Park. Gerald Smith has been keeping tabs on the amount of renters in Garden Park for years. What he has found is that the number of renters stays about the same. Currently we have about 25 %. Almost half of the rented units are occupied by family members. The committee has decided that the problems of rented units do not out weigh the problems of regulation of rented units and as a committee feel that it is doing fine regulating it self.

Ice Melt

I know its summer, or supposed to be, but many of the ice melt buckets are still out. If your building still has your bucket out could you move it downstairs. Plesae put the buckets under the stairs or just inside the basement door so they can be easily found next winter.
