Topics Discussed

Thanks

We would like to give a big thanks to Sandy Shephard, Leslie & Troy Ballard. Sandy has been doing a lot with our flower beds. She has even found new and less expensive ways to improve our grounds. Thanks Sandy. Troy was able to help fix a broken sprinkler that was flooding a neighboring building. This was particularly helpful because the sprinkler broke at two o’clock in the morning. Thanks Troy. Leslie Ripley helps out by pulling weeds and while she walks her dog. Something really easy but helps us all. Thanks Leslie. Both of them didn’t wait they just took action to help improve our neighborhood. Thanks again and keep it up.

Dumpster

I know you are tired of hearing about the dumpsters. Recently it has been brought to our attention that people outside of Garden Park are using the dumpsters. This is costing us money. If you see someone that is not a resident get the license plate number and report it to TPM. Also, abuse of the dumpsters can results in a fine.

Pool

The committee had decided last year after leaving the pool open longer in the season to close the pool on Labor Day. There are many reasons for making this decision. We wanted everyone to know why we made this decision First off, the sewage for the entire year is based off the water usage from September to December. If the pool is open during this time our water usage is higher and our sewage bill is higher for the entire year. Secondly, with the weather getting colder the gas bill for heating the pool increases significantly. Thirdly, the amount of money required to keep the pool open longer than the period the committee decided is more money than we have allotted for the pool. We would have to give, in another area to have the pool open longer. The problem with taking from another budgeted item is, it would be taking from an area like painting, dumpsters, electrical, etc. areas where we cannot afford to take from. Fourthly, for this season, the pool is in need of repairs that cannot be done until the pool is emptied and it needs to be done before it is cold. If there are any other questions please contact a committee member.

Parking

Guest parking is for guests only. Many of our violators are residents that are only parking in a guest stall for a “short period” or have parked there “only to unload”. Many of these reasons/excuses, to use a guest parking stall, are being abused. If you are constantly parking in the guest parking this is a violation of the parking.

Pets

Recently we have had several complaints about stray pets. Stray pets are always a problems but these complaints in particular are about stray cats. If you have cats you must have them licensed with the state and controlled. Cats are not excluded from the rule on poop. If your cat is found pooping on Garden Park you will be fined. If you notice a stray pet you can call animal control (801) 229-7070. Orem City Animal Regulations Dog Licenses, Cat and Dog Vaccinations - Orem City ordinance requires that all dogs over the age of four months be licensed with the City. Licenses are available at the North Utah Valley Animal Shelter in Lindon, or at the Administrative Services Office on the first floor of the Orem City Center. Orem City also requires that all dogs and cats be current with their rabies vaccination. Bring proof of the rabies vaccination when coming in to get a license for your dog or cat. Licensing your pet is an annual obligation and license fees are $10.00 for a spayed or neutered animals and $25.00 for an unaltered animal. Dogs and Cats at Large - City ordinance requires that dogs and cats are kept contained, whether on the pet owner’s property or anywhere else within the city limits.

Maintenance

There are many things that need to be fixed in Garden Park. Some are bigger than others, but the committee needs to know about them before we can fix them. Some items of maintenance have been reported like trimming trees, electrical problems, weeds, etc. . Thanks to all the people who have reported these items.

Volunteers

Some of the maintenance that has been reported are things that we as residence can do ourselves - note that I said “can” not “have’” to do ourselves. Trimming trees is something that we can do on our own. I have a ladder and if someone else has a trimmer we can get that done. This would cut some of our expenses. Some items need to be left to a professional, i.e. electrical. If we don’t get any volunteers, we will need to pay to have the landscapers to do the job. We thought, as a committee, that as a neighborhood we could come together and save all of us some money. So if you would like to help out on some projects let TPM or someone on the committee know.

Web Site

As many of you may know Garden Park has a website. Some of the features of the site are: e-mail to committee members, forum, community rules, newsletters, and local gas prices. The forum can be used to communicate with the committee. For example, the most recent discussion about the pool could have taken place in the forum and each resident could have made their point known more than just signing the petition. If you do not have a username and password for the website contact someone on the committee and they can get you your information.

Elections

The elections are coming up. Lois Chatfield is heading the elections committee again. We should have received information about the candidates and the election. Make sure you come out and vote.
